Gas Fitter Sale — Licensed VBA Gas Plumbing & CO Testing

Gas work is not a DIY job and not a job for a general handyman. Our VBA-licensed gas fitters install, service and repair gas appliances across Sale and Wellington Shire — cooktops, heaters, hot water and LPG — and we carry out carbon monoxide testing that could save a life.

In Victoria, all gas work must be carried out by a plumber licensed specifically for gas fitting by the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) — and a compliance certificate must be issued for the work. That is not red tape; it is the difference between an appliance that runs safely for years and one that fills a Sale home with carbon monoxide. We are VBA-licensed gas fitters serving Sale and Wellington Shire, and we handle everything from a new cooktop to a full gas heater service with CO testing.

Victorian gas licensing (VBA)

Gas fitting is a separate licence class in Victoria for good reason. Any installation, alteration or disconnection of gas pipework or a gas appliance must be done by a VBA-licensed gas fitter, and a compliance certificate issued. We provide that certificate for every job, so if you ever sell your Sale home the work is properly documented.

Carbon monoxide testing

A gas heater that looks fine can still be producing carbon monoxide — a colourless, odourless gas that kills. We carry out proper CO testing on gas heaters, wall furnaces and space heaters, particularly the older units common in Sale's pre-1990s homes. If a unit fails, we will tell you honestly whether it can be serviced and made safe or needs replacement.

LPG vs natural gas in Sale

Most of Sale and its townships are on natural gas, but some rural properties around Bundalaguah, Dutson and Loch Sport still run on bottled LPG. The two are not interchangeable — appliances must be set up for the correct gas, and LPG installations have specific regulator and venting requirements. We convert, install and service both, and we make sure the appliance matches the gas supply on your property.

Gas heater servicing

Energy Safe Victoria recommends gas heaters be serviced at least every two years by a licensed gas fitter. In Sale's older homes we regularly find heaters that have not been serviced in a decade — with cracked heat exchangers, blocked flues and worn pilots. A proper service includes cleaning, checking the flue for drawback, and CO testing.

Cooktop and appliance installation

Whether you are replacing a gas cooktop in a Sale kitchen, installing a new freestanding oven, or adding a gas bayonet for a heater, we install to current Victorian standards, test every joint for leaks, and issue the compliance certificate. We also decommission old appliances safely when you switch to electric.

Gas leak signs and what to do

A sulphur or 'rotten egg' smell (the odorant added to gas), hissing near a fitting, dead plants above a buried line, or a pilot that keeps going out can all indicate a leak. If you smell gas, turn off the meter, open windows, do not switch anything electrical, leave the property and call us. We will locate and repair the leak and test the whole system.

Gas Fitter Sale | Licensed Gas Plumbing — Frequently Asked Questions

Are you licensed for gas work?

Yes — we are VBA-licensed gas fitters and we issue a compliance certificate for every gas installation or alteration, as required in Victoria.

How often should a gas heater be serviced?

Energy Safe Victoria recommends at least every two years. Older units common in Sale's pre-1990s homes should be tested for carbon monoxide at every service.

Can you convert an appliance between LPG and natural gas?

Yes. Some Sale rural properties run on bottled LPG rather than natural gas. We convert and set up appliances for the correct gas and supply.

Do you do carbon monoxide testing?

Yes. We test gas heaters, wall furnaces and space heaters for CO and will tell you honestly if a unit is safe to keep running or should be replaced.

I smell gas — what do I do?

Turn off the gas at the meter, open windows, do not switch anything electrical, leave the property and call us. We will make it safe and repair the leak.
